The Logistics Operative plays a vital role in supporting safe and efficient movement of people, vehicles, and materials across a busy construction site. This role covers a range of essential logistics duties including traffic management, vehicle marshalling, plant support, loading/unloading coordination, and general site flow control. You will work as part of the site logistics team to maintain safe access routes, control deliveries, coordinate with plant operators, and uphold Careysβ high standards of safety, professionalism and organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Control and direct vehicle and plant movements across designated areas of the site.
- Marshal delivery vehicles into safe unloading positions, ensuring compliance with site rules.
- Support lifting and plant operations by acting as a banksman when required.
- Maintain clean, safe and unobstructed access routes, pedestrian walkways and delivery zones.
- Coordinate with the logistics team regarding incoming materials, vehicle bookings and site constraints.
- Assist with compound organisation, loading bays, waste management points and traffic flow systems.
- Report any unsafe acts, near misses or breaches of traffic management plans.
- Ensure all plant and vehicles follow site speed limits, one-way systems and exclusion zones.
- Provide clear communication via hand signals, radios and verbal instructions.
- Support general logistics duties such as signage placement, barriers, fencing and segregation setup.
- Work closely with subcontractors, drivers and site management to ensure smooth operations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong communication and clear instruction-giving.
- Excellent situational awareness and hazard recognition.
- Confident and assertive when managing busy vehicle or plant areas.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in fast-moving environments.
- Team player with a proactive approach to safety and organisation.
- Understanding of traffic management, marshalling signals and vehicle flow on construction sites.
- Awareness of site safety rules, exclusion zones and safe plant operations.
- Familiarity with delivery logistics, loading/unloading procedures and material movement.
- Traffic Marshal / Banksman certification β essential.
- CSCS card β essential.
- Experience performing traffic marshalling, vehicle management or site logistics duties.
- Experience working on large construction or civils projects (desirable).
- Plant tickets (NPORS/CPCS) β desirable but not essential depending on role.
- Experience coordinating with cranes, telehandlers or mobile plant teams β desirable.
