Cambian Dilston College is an independent specialist provider of further education offering 38 and 52 week residential placements as well as day placements for young people with learning difficulties, Autism, challenging behaviours and complex needs. The young people within our college range between 16 and 25 years of age.
Our college consists of our main college building, four cottages and five apartments within our 9 acre rural campus located in Dilston, Northumberland.
The Role
The Team Leader role will have a responsibility to care for the young people at Dilston College, whilst also managing staff for an identified cluster (accommodation and young people within the accommodation). The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day operation of the cluster.
The Team Leader will operate in accordance with the general policy of Cambian Dilston College and will be immediately responsible to the Deputy Home Manager.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Be the point of contact on shift for staff and managers.
- Plan, organise and deliver activities and care in line with the young people’s needs/plans/risk assessments, including off-site activities during the weekend, evenings and holidays.
- Assist the Senior Leadership Team in the assessment of young people’s needs, including new referrals.
- Follow suggested strategies and look for additional strategies to help us work with our young people.
- Prepare, implement and review programmes for groups of young people in accordance with their identified needs.
- Assist young people to manage barriers they may be faced with on a daily basis.
- Provide a high standard of person and physical care for young people, particularly in the areas of safety, health and hygiene.
- Be able to take on the role of Duty Manager for the whole site in absence of a senior member of staff.
- Ensure the home environment is safe and hygienic for all young people.
- Oversee that the kitchen areas/bathrooms/toilets are kept hygienically clean and tidy over the weekend and holiday periods.
- Be prepared to undertake any tasks specified by the Senior Leadership team to accommodate the needs of the business.
- Complete risk assessments, support plans and end of term care reports.
- Ensure menu planning for the week ahead and prepare shopping lists based on stock, requirements, shopping within allocated budget.
- Ensure stock rotation.
Person Specification
- Worked as a Residential Support Worker for at least 2 years or have 2 years of management experience.
- Recent and relevant experience of education/care service delivery requirements of people with a learning disability.
- Knowledge of Ofsted, SEND CoP and Care Quality Commission (CQC) and inspection regimes.
- An understanding of Behaviour Management methods, having undertaken or prepared to undertake training of Safety Intervention (previously known as MAPA) or similar QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification in child/adult care/support or Psychology Degree or alternative qualification entailing knowledge of child development/mental health/Autism or willing to work towards within 3 months of start date.
- English / Maths GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent qualification).
