Hours: 37.5 hours per week, term time

Salary Details: Up to £40,000 DOE per annum

Netherlea School are looking to appoint an effective, passionate and inspirational teacher. Subject / age specialism is not critical, rather the successful candidate will understand the challenges facing young people in care, have the ability to form productive nurturing relationships and improve progress and attainment. GTCS registration is essential as is a good sense of humour and the ability to work as part of a supportive team.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Communicate effectively with parents / carers.
  • Develop productive nurturing relationships with our young people.
  • Provide advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education and wider well-being.
  • Teach assigned classes together with associated preparation and planning.
  • Prepare pupils for examinations and assist with their administration.
  • Develop the school curriculum.
  • Maintain a rich, stimulating classroom environment.
  • Assess, record and report on the work of pupils.
  • Promote and safeguard the health, wellbeing and safety of pupils.
  • Work in partnership with parents, care staff and other professionals.
  • Undertake appropriate and agreed Career Long Professional Development (CLPD).
  • Participate in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and self evaluation.
  • Contribute towards the development needs of the school.
  • Participate in and promote outdoor learning opportunities.

Relevant Qualifications:

  • Appropriate primary / secondary teaching qualification
  • GTCS Registration.
  • PVG Membership is an essential requirement of this post.

Skills/Experience Required:

You will be required to be an excellent classroom practitioner with a good understanding of how ACEs affect young people. Be comfortable with the Curriculum for Excellence and effective use of the outcomes and experiences in daily planning, learning and teaching. You will be required to use your initiative, show enthusiasm, have flexibility and commitment and be able to work as part of a dedicated team.

Netherlea school provides an inclusive education for young people aged from 8-18 who are often looked after, usually residing at one of four houses in the Dumfries area. We offer a high degree of differentiation, within very small teaching groups. All of our young people, who often have previous negative experiences of education, make good progress.
