Rate: £33.88ph via an Umbrella Company (Inside IR35) or £25.26ph on a PAYE basis

Description: Vehicle Structures is one of the larger teams within the PE organisation. The department has complete responsibility for the design and development of all companies Body Structure systems from concept design through to volume production. With an increasing emphasis on Systems Engineering and virtual development techniques, the department utilises advanced AVA CAD and CAE to support the product development process. This role within the Body Structures CoC involves working with a wide range of materials and construction techniques, challenging functional and commercial targets and significant liaison with all internal areas of our business, as well as external component and system suppliers. This role is within the Vehicle Structures team as a Lead Engineer, reporting to the Chapter Lead. The role will mainly focus on but not limited to the development of Body Structures, Subframes, Structural trays and braces, longitudinals, shock towers, dash and cowls, with associated interface sub-components, working to structures design rules and standards as part of an Agile team with one of our new vehicles. This will include ensuring efficient integration and compatibility of the structure, to deliver the necessary attribute targets.
As a Lead Engineer you will be responsible for the design and development of components on a given platform from concept into production, with platform & project engineer responsibilities. Achieving targets for component/system cost, weight, NVH, dynamics, safety, and function into the program team, as well as making the design and tooling releases to suppliers.
Skills:
- Body structures design and engineering, both in steel and aluminium, from initial concept through to final production release.
- High experience of component design to deliver performance attributes (durability, stiffness, weight, cost)
- Design progression / completion in line with programme timing milestones
- Design resolution of issues
- DVP completion in line with programme timing milestones
- Engineering Quality prevent recurrence
- FMEA, Standards and Bill of Design support
- GD&T Knowledge
- Work to performance targets and standards
- Deliver Engineering sign off through DVP and CAE reports
- A passion for the automotive industry and the potential of automotive technology
- Strong project management capabilities with the ability to multitask
- Comfortable challenging cross-functionally and at a variety of levels within the business
Education: Degree, apprenticeship or equivalent experience in relevant field
