Duties:
- Reporting to the Axle Function & Integration Chapter Leader, this role requires an individual to lead the delivery of the design of the suspension/axle concept and associated CAD geometry to meet the agreed timing for multiple nameplates off a platform.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of the Axle CAD concept and integration of corner modules and axle links into subframes and rest of vehicle for all vehicles across a platform.
- Support of Axle Integration Engineers, organising workload to complete programme deliverables.
- Provide daily support with technical direction, methods and processes.
- Work together to plan out tasks, training and career development experiences where appropriate.
- Create suspension layout studies and check packaging including consideration of kinematics, dynamic envelopes (e.g. wheel envelope), compliances, tuning and component variability.
- Generate suspension hard point datasheets for release, plus selected other chassis geometry datasheets (e.g. anti-roll bar routing) and cascade these to all relevant areas of the business.
- Generate and complete the DVP for suspension assemblies for the requirements that depend on CAD as the validation tool (for example clearance checks).
- Develop new processes and techniques to improve the Axle design process, in order to meet the timing requirements of current and future programmes.
Skills:
- Mechanical Engineering based degree (MEng, BEng, MSc or BSc) or equivalent experience.
- Experienced user of Catia v6 (Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE) with a working knowledge of kinematics.
- Knowledge of suspension design fundamentals, suspension packaging & functional requirements.
- High levels of personal organisation, driven, self-motivated and able to deliver with minimum supervision.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills.
- The ability to manage and resolve complex, cross functional, technical issues when confronted with conflicting requirements within project timing constraints.
- Willingness to learn and introduce new methods to increase personal and team effectiveness.
Desirable:
- Good working knowledge of Axle System Targets and Attribute Interaction.
- Understanding of whole vehicle packaging.
- Understanding of Associative Vehicle Architecture modelling principles.
- A good working knowledge of product creation & delivery, change control, product definition and change management processes.
- Knowledge of general vehicle components, systems and sub-systems.
Education:
- Mechanical Engineering based degree (MEng, BEng, MSc or BSc) or equivalent experience.
