We have made a major investment in new testing capability to ensure future Powertrain development can take place and meet the business requirement to develop new and exciting products.

The Battery Test Operations Team is part of Powertrain Test Operations within Product Engineering Operations. The team maintains a productive test workflow for HV Battery development at our internal test labs at ABE Lyons Park (Coventry) and BatLab (Gaydon), delivering high-quality electrical characterisation and performance data at cell, module and pack level. The team also supports HV battery activity at other internal sites and external test facilities.

Based at either the Advanced Battery Engineering lab (ABE) in Coventry or BatLab in Gaydon, you’ll operate across the facility, co-ordinate test preparation, planning and delivery, manage workflows for your allocated tests, and lead problem-solving activities to ensure the satisfaction of customer test requests while adhering to safety policies and procedures. There are roles available at Lyons Park Coventry and BatLab Gaydon, with occasional requirement to travel to other sites, mainly across the Midlands.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of battery test delivery by ensuring thorough preparation of both the test facility and test components, while adhering to agreed test schedules to enable the timely and accurate delivery of data.
  • Provide technical expertise in the setup and execution of battery tests, including the measurement and interpretation of data that will inform key engineering decisions.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the activities of small project teams to ensure testing objectives are met efficiently and effectively.
  • Support the review of test requests, assessing their feasibility and ensuring they fall below EUCAR Hazard Level 4.
  • Act as a champion for process documentation in line with the Way and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), while also supporting the collection and reporting of team KPIs to LL6 and senior management.

  • A natural problem-solver with a structured and methodical approach to resolving technical challenges in complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety regulations, including Risk Assessments, COSHH, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Sound knowledge of working in high-voltage or high-risk environments, with hands-on experience in Lithium-ion battery technology.
