Selected by leading players in UK Healthcare, including The Royal Marsden and Guys & St Thomas’ in the public sector, Nuffield Health and Aviva in the private sector. Having entered the US market at the start of this year we have rapidly secured tier-1 partnerships including leading healthcare company Evolent and one of the world’s most renowned healthcare providers, watch this space! However, we’re just getting started and have ambitious plans to scale an important, valuable business. We are looking for a world-class FD to play a key part in this exciting journey. Somebody who thrives in a startup environment and wants to play a pivotal role supporting the CEO, establishing and owning a high performing finance function that enables the business to thrive during our next stage of growth. The Role As the Finance Director at a growth stage startup, you will partner the CEO & Founder; support and align financial priorities with the overall business strategy; work with the business to drive the right commercial and financial outcomes; play a leading role in future financing; facilitate international expansion; as well as managing and building the financial and governance capacity and capabilities over time . This position will report directly to the CEO, working with our fractional company secretary and with mentorship from one of the company’s Board Advisors, a CFO at some of Europe’s most successful start-up /scale-ups. Responsibilities Strategy: Develop and implement the financial strategy in alignment with the company’s growth objectives. Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO and senior leadership team on financial matters. Lead financial forecasting, budgeting, and long-term financial planning processes. Identify and assess financial risks and opportunities to steer the company’s financial health. Support fundraising initiatives, including debt/equity financing, and manage relationships with investors and stakeholders. Collaborate with senior leadership on pricing strategies, market expansion, and capital allocation. Lead and scale the finance team to ensure effective financial management during the company’s growth phase. Management of Financial Models: Build and maintain the company’s financial model, including cash flow forecasts, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets. Continuously update and refine the model to reflect business growth, fundraising activities, and strategic changes. Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A): Lead the FP&A function, providing insights on financial performance, market conditions, and key drivers of the business. Analyse financial data to make informed business recommendations and drive strategic decisions. Investment Priorities: Work with the leadership team to set and evaluate investment priorities, ensuring alignment with the company’s long-term goals. Analyse return on investment (ROI) for key business initiatives and capital expenditures. Fundraising and Investor Relations: Support fundraising activities, including preparing financial projections, pitch decks, and investor presentations. Liaise with investors and stakeholders, providing regular updates on the company’s financial performance. Share Options and Equity Management: Manage the company’s share option scheme, ensuring employees understand and benefit from equity participation. Maintain accurate records of share allocations, valuations, and cap table management. Cost Control: Implement and manage efficient cost control processes to ensure the startup operates within its budget and financial constraints. Monitor expenses and identify areas for savings and efficiencies. Budgeting: Lead the annual budgeting process, including the creation of detailed budgets for various departments. Monitor ongoing performance against budgets and provide recommendations for adjustments. Production and Management Accounts: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly management accounts and production accounts. Oversee all financial transactions and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Skills and Qualifications A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with a strong understanding of financial reporting and analysis. Proven experience as a Finance Director or senior finance leader, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment, Series A/B would be ideal. Ability to navigate ambiguity and manage financials in a start-up, fast-growth setting. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation including investors Strong knowledge of the UK and a desire to learn US financial regulations and experience managing share options. Entrepreneurial mindset with a “can-do” attitude and willingness to roll up your sleeves with a view to build a team longer term and full finance function. Strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture while managing the finer financial details navigating early start up challenges and opportunities.
