We are seeking a qualified SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teaching Assistant/ Learning Support Assistant. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs, ensuring they have equal opportunities to access education and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with special educational needs, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and emotional or behavioural difficulties.
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) for students with SEN.
- Adapt learning materials and resources to suit the individual needs and abilities of students with SEN.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and respected.
- Collaborate with other members of the school staff, including SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), to monitor and track the progress of students with SEN.
- Provide feedback to the classroom teacher on the progress and development of students with SEN.
- Assist with personal care tasks, if necessary, such as toileting and feeding, in accordance with individual care plans.
- Promote positive behaviour and social skills development among students with SEN.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills related to SEN support.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent.
- Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, preferably in a school setting.
- Knowledge of different SEN conditions and strategies for supporting students with diverse needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of students with SEN.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the changing needs of students and the school environment.
- Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance, or willingness to undergo the process.
- Any additional qualifications or training related to SEN support would be advantageous.
