Key Responsibilities

  • Support individuals to develop independent living skills (e.g. cooking, budgeting, personal care, travel training).
  • Promote choice, control, and decision‑making in all aspects of daily life.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to maintain positive mental health and wellbeing.
  • Support individuals to access the community, education, employment, and social opportunities.
  • Assist with personal care where required, in a respectful and dignified manner.
  • Support with medication in line with training and policies.
  • Follow and implement person‑centred support plans and risk assessments.
  • Use positive behaviour support (PBS) approaches where needed.
  • Build trusting, professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Monitor and report changes in behaviour, mood, or wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and clear records.
  • Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, and other agencies.
  • Safeguard individuals and report any concerns in line with procedures.

Skills & Experience

  • Essential:
    • A genuine passion for supporting people with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs.
    • Ability to promote independence rather than create reliance.
    • Good communication and listening skills.
    • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or mental health conditions.
    • Understanding of positive behaviour support (PBS).
    • Knowledge of safeguarding and person‑centred care.
    • Relevant qualification in Health & Social Care (Level 2 or 3).
