Job Description

Job Role: Residential Childcare Officer

Location: Reading

Employment Hours: Full time, and part time

Rate of Pay: £12-£14per hour

We are a busy childcare agency serving Berkshire and the surrounding counties. We have a number of new roles and assignments supporting children and young people and we are looking for staff to join our team.

We are looking for dedicated, compassionate, and skilled Residential Childcare Officers to join our team and support young people in residential care.

As a Residential Childcare Officer, you will play a key role in providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for children and young people in care. You will work as part of a team to deliver high-quality care, support their emotional, physical, and educational development, and empower them to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day care and support to children and young people in a residential care setting.
  • Build positive relationships with young people, acting as a role model and mentor.
  • Ensure the emotional and physical needs of the young people are met.
  • Implement individual care plans in collaboration with the existing staff team and other professional.
  • Promote and support the educational, social, and recreational development of young people.
  • Help young people develop life skills, including independence, self-care, and decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with policies and procedures.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Essential:

    • Experience in working with children and young people, ideally in a residential or childcare setting.
    • Understanding of child development, safeguarding, and child protection policies.
    • Ability to build strong, positive relationships with young people.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
    • A commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of young people.
  • Desirable:

    • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation and safeguarding practices.
    • Previous experience of working in a residential care setting.
    • Full UK driving license
