We are looking for a committed, knowledgeable, and compassionate Senior Care Assistant to join our dedicated team in Jarrow.
In this vital role, you will support the Nurse in Charge and take an active lead in overseeing a team of Care Assistants to ensure that every resident receives the highest possible standard of person‑centred care.
As a Senior Care Assistant, you will be responsible for providing hands‑on support with daily living activities, encouraging independence, safeguarding the dignity and well‑being of each individual, and taking on key clinical responsibilities such as administering medication, contributing to care planning, and ensuring accurate documentation.
Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and support Care Assistants to maintain outstanding standards of care.
- Deliver compassionate personal care while promoting residents' independence, dignity, and choices.
- Organise, coordinate, and participate in enriching activities, outings, and social opportunities.
- Attend MDT (multidisciplinary team) meetings and contribute actively to assessments and care planning.
- Administer medication safely in line with internal policies and legal frameworks.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and up‑to‑date records, including daily notes and incident reports.
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating individual care plans and risk assessments.
- Support residents with mobility, physical disabilities, and rehabilitation activities.
- Assist during mealtimes, ensuring residents receive appropriate nutritional support.
- Uphold stringent hygiene and infection‑control standards throughout the home.
- Report any changes in residents' health, behaviour, or needs promptly and appropriately.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Level 3 Safe Handling of Medication Certificate (evidence required).
- Previous experience and relevant qualifications within a care or medical setting.
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach with a genuine desire to help others.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to provide leadership, support colleagues, and maintain high‑quality care standards.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution‑focused in challenging situations.
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required.
