We are hiring a Business Analyst - Data Governance and Microsoft Purview to work with business stakeholders, data owners, data stewards and technology teams to capture requirements, map processes, document data definitions and support the delivery of practical governance improvements using Microsoft Purview where appropriate to create measurable business value.

This is a hands-on business analysis role with a strong focus on data governance and Microsoft Purview: you will help define ways of working, document current and future state processes, support data quality and ownership initiatives, and ensure business requirements are clearly translated into deliverable actions across cataloguing, glossary, lineage, classification and data quality use cases.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with business stakeholders, data owners, data stewards and technical teams to gather, analyse and document requirements for data governance initiatives.
  • Document current and future state business processes, data flows, roles, responsibilities and governance controls.
  • Support the definition and adoption of data ownership, stewardship, data quality, metadata management and data issue management processes.
  • Support the configuration, adoption and business use of Microsoft Purview capabilities such as the data catalogue, business glossary, collections, classifications, lineage and data quality features.
  • Translate business needs into clear functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and prioritised backlogs.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews and playback sessions to align stakeholders and validate requirements, processes and governance outcomes.
  • Create and maintain documentation including business requirements, process maps, data dictionaries, glossaries, RAID logs and decision records.
  • Use SQL, reporting tools or data profiling outputs to support data analysis, data quality investigation and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, architecture, security and compliance teams to ensure governance requirements are embedded into solution design.
  • Support data quality measurement, root cause analysis, remediation planning and ongoing monitoring of agreed governance metrics.
  • Contribute to the development of business glossaries, critical data element definitions, policies, standards and operating procedures.
  • Work with stakeholders to define Microsoft Purview glossary terms, ownership models, metadata standards and catalogue enrichment requirements that improve data discoverability and trust.
  • Provide clear communication on progress, risks, dependencies and decisions to project teams and senior stakeholders.

Experience using collaboration, documentation and delivery tools such as Microsoft 365, Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, Visio or similar platforms.

Knowledge of data governance concepts including data ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, data quality, master data and regulatory considerations.

Practical understanding of Microsoft Purview concepts including Data Map, Unified Catalogue, business glossary, classifications, lineage, collections, stewardship roles and data quality management.

Ability to use AI-assisted tools responsibly to improve productivity, analysis, documentation quality and stakeholder communication.

Proven track record delivering business analysis outcomes within data, analytics, governance, compliance or transformation programmes.

Certifications (Nice to Have)

  • Degree or equivalent practical experience in Business Analysis, Information Management, Data Management, Computer Science, Business, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Business analysis certifications such as BCS, IIBA ECBA, CCBA or CBAP are advantageous.
  • Data governance or data management certifications such as DAMA CDMP, DCAM or equivalent are advantageous.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications such as DP-900, PL-300, SC-900, Microsoft Purview training or equivalent practical experience are beneficial.
