Business Analyst – Data Governance & Microsoft Purview

  • Location: UK (London/Fareham)
  • Work mode: Hybrid -3days in office
  • Salary up to £64k

We’re looking for a hands‑on Business Analyst – Data Governance & Microsoft Purview to work closely with business stakeholders, Data Owners, Data Stewards and technology teams to deliver practical data governance improvements and measurable business value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyse and document requirements for data governance initiatives
  • Define and document current-state and future-state processes, data flows, roles and governance controls
  • Support data ownership, stewardship, metadata management and data quality initiatives
  • Support business adoption of Microsoft Purview, including Data Map, Unified Catalog, Business Glossary, Classifications, Lineage and Collections
  • Translate business needs into functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and prioritised backlogs
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops, interviews and playback sessions
  • Develop and maintain process maps, data dictionaries, glossaries, RAID logs and decision records
  • Use SQL, reporting tools and data profiling outputs to support data‑quality analysis and recommendations
  • Work closely with Data Engineering, Analytics, Architecture, Security and Compliance teams
  • Support data‑quality measurement, root‑cause analysis, remediation and governance metrics
  • Define business glossary terms, critical data elements, ownership models and metadata standards

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven Business Analysis experience within Data, Analytics, Governance, Compliance or Transformation programmes
  • Strong understanding of Data Governance and Data Management principles
  • Practical understanding / hands‑on experience with Microsoft Purview
  • Knowledge of Data Cataloguing, Business Glossary, Metadata, Lineage, Classification and Data Quality
  • Experience working with Data Owners and Data Stewards
  • Strong requirements gathering, process mapping and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to use SQL/data analysis to support data‑quality investigations
  • Experience with tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, Visio and Microsoft 365
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex business/data problems into practical governance actions

Nice to Have

  • Microsoft certifications such as DP-900, PL-300 or SC-900
  • Microsoft Purview training or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with Master Data Management and regulatory/compliance environments
  • Experience using AI‑assisted tools responsibly for analysis and documentation
