Enterprise Architect is required to define the frameworks, standards and long-term target-state architectures needed to accelerate digital delivery across a large technology modernisation programme.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading the modernisation of technology governance frameworks, ensuring they keep pace with modern engineering practices, including the use of AI in the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Defining standards, guardrails and architectural patterns that help product teams deliver safe, compliant and scalable digital services faster.
  • Designing and implementing a repeatable framework for long-term target-state architecture development to guide technology decisions across domains.
  • Delivering a pilot target-state architecture, covering business context, capabilities, platforms, data, integrations and a plan for retiring Legacy systems.
  • Creating a strategic roadmap for technology transformation initiatives, new development needs, software and platform replacements, and capability gaps.
  • Supporting the review and update of the existing technology strategy to reflect new organisational priorities and compliance changes.
  • Leading discovery phases to assess business needs, technology options and architectural requirements.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Extensive experience as an Enterprise Architect, driving strategic, multi-domain technology transformations and designing architecture frameworks that translate into actionable, multi-year delivery roadmaps.
  • Experience conducting structured strategy reviews and updating enterprise technology strategies in response to changing organisational landscapes.
  • TOGAF certification or experience with the TOGAF Enterprise Architecture framework would be beneficial.
  • Solid understanding of modern SDLC practices, DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Practical knowledge of the risks and governance controls involved in integrating AI tools into development workflows.
  • Enterprise integration patterns, including API-first and event-driven architectures, cloud-native design and modern data platforms experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including Enterprise Landing Zones, subscription models, governance and PaaS/SaaS.
  • Familiarity with Legacy modernisation strategies, including migration, refactoring and decommissioning.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to define business cases, roadmaps and investment implications for board-level stakeholders.
  • Public Sector or Central Government experience, with a good understanding of the Technology Code of Practice and GDS service standards, would be beneficial.
