Join VL Test Systems Ltd (VLT) as a Field Service Engineer, servicing and supporting our equipment at customer sites across the UK, including inspection, maintenance, calibration, and testing. You will also troubleshoot breakdowns, carry out repairs, and proactively advise customers and the service team to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Your role: In this role, you ensure high customer satisfaction by minimizing equipment downtime through effective service, calibration, and repair activities. You work closely with customers and internal teams, manage schedules and resources efficiently, and ensure all work is clearly documented and communicated. You also support installations, train customers, uphold safety standards, and continuously develop your technical skills.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Your primary accountability is to ensure that customers who have purchased equipment from VLT are satisfied by having limited equipment downtime.
- This role requires engineering activities to be clearly documented at each stage.
- Work with other VLT colleagues to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the company.
- Liaise with the customer regarding the activities that are required to complete the Service, Calibration or Breakdown.
- Liaise with the Service Administrators regarding any problems that may stop or slow down the Service.
- Reviewing schedules and maximizing on site attendance, whilst minimizing travel time.
- Ensuring they have the correct stock, equipment, tools, documentation and information to complete potential Services.
- Advise the Engineering Manager or Service Supervisor or Service Administrator if there are any potential issues with the Service.
- From time to time assist with installation and commissioning activities.
- Actively participate in meetings, providing information on the workload and suggestions to improve performance.
- Train customers to the full usage of their equipment.
- Report any safety issues or poorly cleaned / maintained sites send photos back to the company office.
- Actively engage in own development and training.
About you: You have experience in engineering service, calibration, maintenance, or commissioning roles, ideally within the Commercial Vehicle sector, and are willing to further develop your knowledge of Commercial Vehicle Testing and DVSA test procedures. We are looking for someone with:
- Experience in an engineering service, calibration, service, or commissioning role, preferably a background in the Commercial Vehicle sector.
- Strong numerical skills and the ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- A motivated, dynamic, and professional attitude with a presentable appearance.
- Excellent time management and reliability.
- The ability to communicate confidently with both Directors and workshop staff.
- A clean driving licence (preferred).
- Flexibility in working hours and a proactive mindset.
