This role is suited to individuals who can quickly understand complex payment ecosystems, engage effectively with business and technology stakeholders, and drive delivery across fraud monitoring, sanctions screening, card processing, tokenisation, account switching, and domestic and international payment schemes.

The priority is practical delivery experience.

Candidates must be able to hit the ground running, operate with limited ramp-up time, and contribute immediately to high-profile payments programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or support the delivery of complex payments-related initiatives across banking environments, ensuring outcomes are delivered to agreed scope, timelines, and quality standards.

  • Support integration with sanctions screening products and related financial crime controls.
  • Contribute to end-to-end debit card processing initiatives, including Visa card processing and associated operational processes.

  • Lead or support Current Account Switching Service initiatives, including the implementation of CASS for a banking institution.
  • Translate business needs into clear delivery plans, business requirements, functional specifications, process models, test scenarios, and implementation artefacts.
  • Ensure delivery approaches reflect relevant payment scheme requirements, operational impacts, controls, and customer outcomes.
  • Work confidently across UK domestic payment schemes, including Faster Payments Service (FPS), CHAPS, and Bacs, as well as SEPA and international payments.
  • Apply knowledge of ISO 20022 messaging standards to support requirements definition, impact assessment, testing, and implementation planning.
  • Identify delivery risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies, escalating where required with clear options and recommendations.
  • Required Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience working within banking or financial services environments, ideally with direct responsibility for delivering payments-related products, platforms, or change initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of payment operations, payment schemes, and end-to-end payment processing.

• Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following areas

  • Financial crime-related payment initiatives.
  • Fraud monitoring application integration.

  • Debit card processing, including Visa card processing.
  • Tokenised payment solutions, including Apple Pay and Google Pay.

  • Familiarity with UK domestic payment schemes, including FPS, CHAPS, and Bacs.
  • Ability to work with both business and technology teams, translating requirements into practical delivery outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and drive progress.
  • Ability to operate in complex, fast-paced programme environments with multiple workstreams and dependencies.
  • For Project Manager candidates: strong planning, governance, dependency management, risk management, and delivery control experience.
