Careers Wales provides an all‑age guidance service. Our Services to Young People team supports learners in education, while our Working Wales team works with customers in the labour market. As the only national organisation offering impartial careers information, advice and guidance in Wales, our advisers are passionate about helping individuals realise their potential.

About the Roles

Swansea, Working Wales Team - Intermediate Welsh Language Skills

You will support young people and adults to enter or re-enter the labour market through assessment, guidance and tailored support. This includes working with individuals who are unemployed (short or long term), economically inactive, experiencing health or disability related barriers, or seeking a career change.

You will also collaborate with a wide range of local and national partners such as training providers, Jobcentre Plus, prisons, youth offending teams, employers and other organisations to help customers progress into education, training or sustained employment.

Advisers use a variety of tools and approaches, including one‑to‑one support, group employability sessions and presentations using digital technologies.

We particularly welcome applications from those with experience in:

  • Education or training organisations
  • Health, social care or disability support
  • Supporting adults returning to the labour market
  • Working with diverse ethnic minority communities, asylum seekers or refugees
  • Working in a prison setting.

Powys/Ceredigion, Services to Young People Team – Advanced Welsh Language Skills

These roles focus on preparing young people for key transitions in their education and future careers. You will work across mainstream schools, special schools, FE colleges and with those educated outside mainstream settings. As with all our adviser roles, you will use a range of tools to deliver one‑to‑one support, interactive group sessions and digital presentations.

Peripatetic Roles, South East, South West and Mid Wales Regions - Intermediate Welsh Language Skills

These advisers/trainees will work flexibly across both service delivery areas, supporting one region each. Candidates must be willing to travel to multiple locations and demonstrate a strong interest in our full range of customer services. Each successful applicant will have an assigned contractual base. Travel time beyond this base counts as working hours, and additional travel expenses will be reimbursed.

General Information

Advisers/Trainees must have suitable transport to fulfil their duties and attend learning and development events in Wales and occasionally the UK.

  • Careers Adviser applicants must hold the QCF Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development (or equivalent) and be eligible for the CDI Register of Practitioners.
  • Trainee Careers Advisers must hold a degree (or equivalent) and will complete the Level 6 Diploma as part of the role, with some independent study required.
  • An Enhanced DBS Disclosure is required.

Welsh Language Skills Level Descriptors:

  • Intermediate: You’ll be able to understand and communicate clearly on everyday and work‑related topics, hold engaging conversations, and explain ideas, experiences, and plans with confidence. You should also be able to read straightforward work communications and produce clear, well‑structured emails or letters to share information, make requests, or organise activities.
  • Advanced: You should be able to follow most discussions, contribute confidently in conversations with fluent speakers, and express your views clearly on a range of everyday and work‑related topics. You’ll understand most written Welsh materials with support from a dictionary and produce clear, accurate short reports, reviews, and correspondence for both internal and external audiences.
