Flexible working: 36 hours per week, with flexitime and the option for compressed hours of at least four days per week. Home or remote working is not possible due to the nature of this role.

About us

MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to harm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing, and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt these threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and guidance to government, businesses and other organisations about how to keep themselves safe. The role

As a Deputy Logistics Manager, you’ll make sure corporate and mission teams across MI5 are resourced and ready to take on whatever the day brings. Leading a small team, including porters and logistics drivers, you’ll coordinate everything from ordering vital supplies to the secure destruction of classified waste, manage mail and goods, and organise deliveries across our UK sites. You’ll also:

  • oversee the mailroom, managing incoming and outgoing mail
  • allocate work to porters, organise their diaries, and respond to colleague requests
  • assign delivery requests to logistics drivers
  • ensure security protocols for classified materials are followed
  • monitor and respond to requests across the organisation through our computer system, coordinating tasks for porters and drivers
  • place orders with external suppliers and commercial colleagues to keep office stock, including stationery, well-maintained

About you

You’re someone who enjoys working with others and bringing out the best in those around you. You’ll be leading a small team, so while you don’t need formal management experience, your leadership skills are essential. You’ll also have:

  • experience working in an office environment
  • confidence using Microsoft applications like Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • effective organisational skills to support you in managing schedules and diaries for your business area

The role will involve some manual handling of goods, but no fitness test is required. Full manual handling training will be provided.

What to expect

Our recruitment process is fair, transparent, and based on merit. Here is a brief overview of each stage, in order:

  • Online Situational Judgement Test (SJT) rating the appropriateness of your responses to a series of short scenarios. The SJT tests criteria important for all roles in our organisation
  • Applications sift to look at your role specific knowledge/experience, and motivation for the role and organisation.
  • Competency-based interview.
  • If successful, you will receive a conditional offer of employment.

Please note, you must successfully pass each stage of the process to progress to the next. Your application may take around 6 - 9 months to process including vetting, so we advise you continue any current employment until you have received your final job offer.
