This role is a rare opportunity for an experienced qualified accountant to take up a senior technical role in a business that stands for accounting being done properly, with decency and foresight.
About The Role
The main body of the role will involve reviewing the following, all of which will have been prepared by a more junior member of the team:
- Bookkeeping and working papers prepared by junior members
- Statutory accounts
- Corporation tax returns
- VAT returns
- Personal tax returns
You’ll also be involved in:
- Supporting the preparation and review of monthly management accounts and client reporting/financial insights
- Spotting technical issues and tax planning opportunities
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members
- Dealing directly with clients and helping to resolve queries
- Contributing ideas to improve systems, processes and efficiency across the firm
This role would suit someone who enjoys working closely with owner-managed businesses, who takes pride in producing high-quality work and likes being part of a dynamic, collaborative team environment.
About You
We’re looking for someone who shares the way we work and the values that matter to us:
- Accounting Done Properly: you care about getting things right and delivering work to professional standards.
- ACA or ACCA qualified
- Ideally with 10+ years’ post-qualification experience in a UK accountancy practice, including substantial experience reviewing statutory accounts and tax work.
- Technically strong across UK accounts and UK tax
- Confident using professional judgement
- Organised, reliable and able to manage deadlines effectively
- Proactive and happy to take ownership of your work
- Done with Decency: you treat clients and colleagues with respect, honesty and empathy
- Experienced working with owner-managed businesses
- Comfortable reviewing work and giving constructive feedback
- A strong communicator with both clients and colleagues
- Done with Foresight: you look beyond the numbers and think proactively about how to help clients Get Money Sorted and help Macleod meet our strategic goals.
- Comfortable using cloud-based software and modern technology
- Committed to continuous learning – including keeping up to speed with whatever HMRC decides to do next!
- Interested in improving systems, processes and ways of working
