We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join an innovative engineering team specialising in bespoke overhead crane and lifting solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to work on technically challenging projects across manufacturing, warehousing, and construction sectors. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in Block Functional Diagrams (BFDs) and industrial electrical design, playing a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-performance control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and produce electrical designs including schematics, layout drawings, cable schedules, and Block Functional Diagrams (BFDs) for crane control systems.
  • Lead the electrical design function on projects, ensuring designs meet operational, safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, project managers, and production teams to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Select and specify electrical components including control panels, drives, PLCs, motors, sensors, and cable management systems.
  • Maintain and improve standard design practices, technical documentation, and engineering processes.
  • Provide technical support during production, installation, and commissioning phases.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within manufacturing, industrial engineering, or automation environments.
  • Expert-level knowledge and practical application of Block Functional Diagrams (BFDs).
  • Strong understanding of control panel design, motor control systems, and machine safety.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical CAD software.
  • Good understanding of relevant UK and EU electrical standards and directives, including BS EN 60204 and the Machinery Directive.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Experience working with overhead cranes, hoists, lifting equipment, or heavy machinery.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming platforms such as Siemens or Allen-Bradley.
  • Familiarity with 3-phase power distribution and variable speed drives (VSDs).

Working Hours:

Monday to Thursday: 08:30 - 17:00
Friday: 08:30 - 12:30
