The Maintenance Apprentice supports plant reliability by assisting maintenance partners with equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, and inventory activities. This role develops foundational maintenance skills while following established procedures to ensure safe operations, food safety, and effective equipment performance.
Responsibilities
- Assist maintenance partners with equipment repairs, troubleshooting, and response to production calls.
- Perform assigned maintenance tasks within established time expectations and safety requirements.
- Support preventive maintenance activities and document completed work as required.
- Apply basic preventive and predictive maintenance techniques to identify potential issues and generate corrective work requests.
- Identify required parts, supplies, and tools for follow‑up work and coordinate needs with maintenance partners.
- Track and report maintenance and equipment performance information to support improvement activities.
- Assist with ensuring equipment is safe to operate, including proper guarding and hazard controls.
- Use approved parts and materials in accordance with procedures and specifications.
- Follow management of change (MOC) processes when equipment or process changes occur.
- Operate material handling and lifting equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hoists, after completing required training.
- Support stockroom and inventory activities related to maintenance parts and supplies.
- Travel locally to vendors or machine shops to obtain parts or deliver equipment as needed.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), housekeeping standards, safety procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Perform other job‑related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Ability to follow written procedures, safety requirements, and work instructions.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn maintenance skills and techniques.
- Basic computer skills to support documentation and work tracking.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work scheduled hours, including overtime or weekends as required.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including lifting, standing, walking, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders.
