Overview:
We are currently supporting a leading energy trading firm in their search for a high-calibre Senior Power Trader to join their desk in London. This is a key strategic hire, aimed at expanding their short-term trading capabilities across the UK and European power markets. The ideal candidate will bring a proven PnL track record, deep market insight, and the ability to operate with a high level of autonomy within a fast-paced, commercially driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of short-term power trading activities across key European markets (e.g., UK, France, Germany, Nordics), including Day-Ahead and Intraday.
- Execute proprietary strategies and optimise asset-backed positions in close coordination with analytics, forecasting, and operations teams.
- Develop and maintain trading models, tools, and dashboards to support real-time decision-making.
- Identify new trading opportunities based on market fundamentals, cross-commodity dynamics, and regulatory shifts.
- Work collaboratively with risk, origination, and technology teams to ensure seamless trade execution and strategy alignment.
- Mentor and support junior traders and analysts as needed.
Candidate Profile:
- 5–10+ years of experience in short-term or proprietary power trading, with a demonstrable PnL record.
- Strong understanding of European power market dynamics, including grid operations, renewables integration, and trading regulations.
- Technical proficiency in Python, VBA, or other relevant tools for data analysis and automation.
- Commercial mindset with the ability to take risk-managed positions and adapt strategies to changing market conditions.
