Supply Secondary Teaching Assistant (SEN & SEMH) - ASAP Start

Location: East London

Salary: £100+ per day (depending on experience)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Temporary - Full-time, long-term

About the Role

We are looking for a committed and adaptable Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in East London on a supply basis. The role focuses on providing tailored support to students with SEN and SEMH needs, helping them to engage positively in lessons and school life. You will work closely with teachers and the pastoral/SEN teams to ensure students receive the academic, behavioural, and emotional support they need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Assist with behaviour management, emotional regulation, and social development
  • Support students' learning across a range of subjects
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and pastoral staff
  • Follow and implement IEPs, behaviour plans, and personalised strategies
  • Help maintain a calm, inclusive, and engaging learning environment

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting SEN and/or SEMH students in a secondary school
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Ability to support behaviour in a positive, consistent manner
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Reliable, empathetic, proactive, and able to adapt quickly in a supply setting

Desirable

  • Experience with de-escalation or restorative approaches
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA, SEN training, SEMH CPD)
