We are currently recruiting on behalf of a children’s hospital school for an experienced Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). This is a highly rewarding role supporting children with complex medical, physical and cognitive needs within a hospital education setting. Experience in a similar SEN is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning for pupils with PMLD and SLD
- Deliver planned learning activities under the direction of teaching staff
- Provide high levels of personal care, sensory support and communication support
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and medical considerations
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, medical staff and families
- Maintain a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment
- Support pupils on a 1:1 or small-group basis
Qualifications and Experience
- T/A or HLTA qualification or equivalent (or above)
- Proven experience supporting children with PMLD and/or SLD
- Experience working in a specialist SEN, hospital, or complex needs setting
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and SEND practices
- Confident, calm and resilient approach
- Ability to work flexibly in a medical/clinical environment
