About the Role

We are seeking a skilled, nurturing, and dedicated Class Teacher to lead a small, specialist class within our mainstream primary school in Sutton. This class consists of 10-12 pupils with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
  • Speech and Language needs
  • Autism (ASC)

Pupils are working approximately two years below age-related expectations and benefit from a highly personalised, therapeutic, and relationship-based approach to learning. You will be supported by two experienced Teaching Assistants, working collaboratively to provide a safe, structured, and engaging environment where pupils can thrive both academically and emotionally.

What the Role Involves

  • Delivering bespoke, highly differentiated teaching tailored to individual needs
  • Creating a nurturing, predictable classroom environment that supports regulation and engagement
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, particularly those with high SEMH needs
  • Supporting the integration of newly placed pupils from other settings, including those with complex SEMH profiles
  • Working closely with SLT, SENCo, therapists, and external professionals
  • Monitoring progress using a holistic, child-centred approach

  • Is a qualified teacher (QTS)
  • Has a strong understanding of SEND, particularly SEMH, speech & language needs, and autism
  • Demonstrates a relationship-based, trauma-informed approach to behaviour and learning
  • Can remain calm, resilient, and reflective in challenging situations
  • Is committed to inclusive education within a mainstream setting
  • Thrives as part of a collaborative team and values multi-disciplinary working
