Teaching Assistant 1:1

Overview

A supportive primary school in south Leeds is looking for a compassionate and resilient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 6 pupil with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs from October 2025.

This is a full-time, long-term role and will suit someone experienced in working with children who require additional emotional and behavioural support. The school is looking for someone who can build trust and consistency with the pupil in the run-up to their secondary school transition.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 classroom support for a Year 6 pupil with SEMH needs
• Support the pupil with emotional regulation, focus, and engagement in lessons
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external agencies to ensure the child’s progress and wellbeing
• Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour and social interaction
• Offer encouragement and guidance in preparation for the move to secondary school

Ideal candidate / Qualifications

• Have experience working with children with SEMH, ASD, ADHD or similar needs
• Be patient, empathetic, and resilient when supporting challenging behaviour
• Be confident in implementing personalised strategies and de-escalation techniques
• Have strong communication skills to liaise with staff, parents, and professionals
• Be passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning

Previous experience with a similar role is essential for the successful candidate.
