We are currently seeking a full-time SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Reception-aged pupil within a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lewisham.

The role involves providing 1:1 support for a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who is non-verbal and requires additional assistance with communication, personal care, and behavioural support.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support within the Reception classroom.
  • Support a pupil with ASD and significant communication needs.
  • Use visual aids, communication strategies, and sensory approaches to support learning and engagement.
  • Assist with personal care when required.
  • Help manage challenging behaviours in a calm, positive, and consistent manner.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly ASD.
  • Experience working with non-verbal pupils.
  • Confidence supporting personal care needs.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour management.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

Desirable

  • Experience within a primary school or early years setting.
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication methods.
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant or SEND qualifications.
  • Spanish speaking
