Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support (Year 5 Pupil)

My client is seeking a dedicated, resilient, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) who can present with challenging behaviour to work within welcoming primary school in Tower Hamlets.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in a child’s educational journey.

The successful candidate will work closely with the pupil throughout the school day, helping him access learning, develop positive relationships, and regulate his behaviour in a supportive and nurturing environment.

The pupil has a keen interest in football, which plays a significant role in his engagement and motivation.

As part of the school’s support package, he receives up to two hours of football coaching during the day, helping to promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and participation in learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Support the pupil’s academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies consistently and positively.
  • Build a trusting and supportive relationship with the pupil.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and external professionals.
  • Encourage engagement in learning and help manage transitions throughout the day.
  • The Ideal Candidate Will
  • Have previous experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Have experience managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour.
  • Be calm, patient, resilient, and able to build positive relationships.
  • Understand the importance of consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement.
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • An interest in football or sports would be advantageous but is not essential.
