Career Teachers is working with a successful secondary school and sixth form in the Harrogate area to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Psychology Teacher to teach Key Stage 5 students from September 2026 on a long-term temporary basis. This is a part-time role for 2 days per week and would suit a confident practitioner with strong subject knowledge and a passion for inspiring post-16 learners.
About the role:
As a KS5 Psychology Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging A Level Psychology lessons, support students in developing strong analytical and research skills, and contribute to a positive sixth form learning environment. You will be expected to maintain high expectations, assess progress effectively and help students prepare confidently for external examinations.
About You:
You will be a committed and adaptable Psychology specialist who can build positive relationships with sixth form students and deliver high-quality learning. You will have excellent communication skills, secure curriculum knowledge and the confidence to support students with exam preparation, research methods, key psychological theories and extended written responses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach engaging and well-structured KS5 Psychology lessons to sixth form students
- Plan, prepare and adapt lessons in line with the A Level Psychology curriculum
- Support students in developing critical analysis, independent thinking, research and evaluation skills
- Assess, monitor and record student progress, providing constructive feedback to help learners improve
- Prepare students for assessments and external examinations through effective teaching, revision and intervention
- Create a positive, inclusive and focused classroom environment
- Follow school policies for safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and health and safety
- Work collaboratively with department colleagues and contribute to the wider sixth form learning culture
Essential requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- Experience teaching Psychology at KS5, A Level or post-16 level
- Strong subject knowledge and understanding of assessment expectations
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons that challenge and support learners
- Excellent classroom management, communication and organisational skills
- A professional, reliable and adaptable approach
- Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to complete safeguarding checks
Desirable experience:
- Recent experience teaching A Level Psychology in a secondary school or sixth form setting
- Knowledge of the AQA Psychology specification
- Experience supporting students with exam preparation, research methods and extended writing
- Ability to contribute to enrichment, intervention or wider sixth form support
