Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant Opportunities – September 2026
Location: Havering & Romford
Pay: £93-£110 per day
Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term (Monday to Friday, term‑time only)
Are you a graduate with experience working in schools and a passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs? Career Teachers is currently recruiting Graduate SEN Teaching Assistants for long-term positions across a range of mainstream primary and secondary schools with Additionally Resourced Provisions (ARPs) in Havering and Romford. These roles are ideal for graduates looking to gain further SEN experience before progressing into teaching, educational psychology, therapy, or wider education-based careers.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are confident supporting pupils with a range of additional needs and are flexible in working across different ARP provisions and mainstream classroom environments. Successful candidates will play a key role in supporting pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development while working alongside experienced SENCOs, teachers, and inclusion teams.

Available Roles
- ARP SEN Teaching Assistant: Support pupils within Additionally Resourced Provisions attached to mainstream schools. Work closely with teaching staff and external professionals to help pupils access learning and achieve positive outcomes.
- 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant: Provide dedicated support to pupils with additional needs, helping them engage in lessons, develop confidence, and reach individual targets.
- SEN Teaching Assistant: Support small groups and whole-class learning within both ARP and mainstream settings, adapting support to meet individual pupil needs.
- Behaviour & Learning Support Assistant: Work alongside teachers and pastoral teams to implement positive behaviour strategies and support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and engagement.
Who We’re Looking For
- A graduate in Psychology, Education, Health & Social Care, Sociology, Criminology, or a related field.
- Previous experience working within a school setting is essential, whether through:
- SEN Teaching Assistant roles
- Learning Support Assistant positions
- School placements
- Classroom support work
- School-based tutoring
- Voluntary school experience
- Experience supporting children with SEND, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH, or learning difficulties is highly desirable.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work across different ARPs and mainstream school environments throughout Havering and Romford.
- Confident supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, and within classroom settings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, resilient, proactive, and committed to improving outcomes for young people.
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
- Available full-time from September 2026.
