This is a great opportunity for a senior/lead level mechanical engineer to join a growing medical technology company based in Buckinghamshire. The business has a total of around 300 employees within the group, however this role is working directly with the novel R&D projects side of the business, which is much smaller, with around 25 employees. This will give the safety of a larger group, but with the day-to-day feel of a smaller, progressive, and technically challenging business.
The lead mechanical engineer will be working on highly complex projects, specifically projects relating to small moving & rotating mechanisms. You will need to be degree trained with a creative background in product development and problem solving.
You will be working within a team of multidisciplined engineers; it will be a hands-on lead mechanical engineering role focusing on the design and development of new products using SolidWorks. The mechanical team would consist of you and two other junior-med level engineers. Although the role is very much hands-on, some level of mentoring and growing the division will be for you to manage.
You will collaborate very closely with computer scientists, software and electronic engineers. It will be helpful if the lead mechanical engineer / mechanical engineering manager has a background working on electro-mechanical products, with a focus on product quality, small intricate rotating mechanisms, manufacturing process and perhaps some knowledge of lean manufacturing.
Lead Mechanical Engineer Requirements
- 7-12 years of commercial experience (flexible)
- A mechanical engineering degree or similar
- Some exposure to leading a small team / mentoring junior members of staff
- Knowledge of small rotating mechanisms is a distinct advantage but not required
- A creative mind and strong problem solver who will have a real input into next-generation devices
- Experience working on electro-mechanical products
- Some experience designing and assembling custom tooling for new products
- A background working on low to medium volume products with a real focus on product quality
- Able to read and interpret complex electro-mechanical technical drawings
