Full-time | Permanent
Salary: £38,000–£45,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity
UK Roof Surveys is a growing independent specialist roof inspection company carrying out residential and professional roof surveys across the UK.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a professional Building Surveyor / Roof Surveyor to join our team.
We are open to candidates from several backgrounds, including experienced Building, Property, Condition or Roof Surveyors; those RICS qualified or working towards membership; and experienced roofing professionals looking to move into surveying and inspection work.
What matters most is that you are professional, dependable, technically minded and capable of making evidence-based decisions.
About the Role
This is a specialist surveying position, not a roofing sales or contracting role. UK Roof Surveys does not undertake remedial roofing works.
Our surveyors independently establish the condition of a roof, identify defects and their likely causes, and provide clients with clear evidence-based findings.
Inspections include:
- Pre-purchase and homebuyer roof surveys
- Roof condition surveys
- Leak and defect investigations
- Drone and internal roof-space inspections
- Workmanship and installation assessments
- Repair versus replacement assessments
- Independent contractor recommendation reviews
As you develop, opportunities may arise to work on commercial properties, housing portfolios, complex investigations and post-works quality assurance.
What You’ll Inspect
Our surveys consider the roof as a complete system, including:
- Slate, clay/concrete tiles and flat roofing systems
- Leadwork, flashings, valleys, abutments, ridges and verges
- Chimneys, underlays and battens
- Ventilation and visible insulation
- Roof structures and loft spaces
- Previous repairs and alterations
- Evidence of water ingress
- Workmanship and installation quality
Who We’re Looking For
Suitable applicants could include Building, Residential, Property, Condition, Stock Condition or Roof Surveyors; Building Inspectors; Clerk of Works / Quality Inspectors; RICS-qualified surveyors or those working towards membership; and experienced roofing professionals with appropriate technical knowledge.
RICS membership is welcomed but not essential.
Candidates without specialist roofing experience will receive training in our inspection methodology and roofing defect assessment. Those from a roofing background will receive training in professional surveying, evidence gathering and reporting standards.
What Matters to Us
Reliability, professionalism, integrity and attention to detail are essential. Our surveyors represent UK Roof Surveys in clients’ homes and provide independent opinions that can influence significant property decisions.
You must communicate professionally, record evidence thoroughly, avoid assumptions where evidence is insufficient, follow a consistent inspection methodology and manage your workload responsibly.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant surveying, property inspection, building pathology or substantial roofing experience
- Strong understanding of residential buildings
- Ability to identify defects and investigate likely causes
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication
- Comfortable using digital inspection/reporting systems
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
- Ability to work independently
- Professional and dependable approach
Desirable Experience / Qualifications
The following are advantageous but not mandatory:
- MRICS / AssocRICS or Building Surveying degree/equivalent
- Residential or stock condition surveying
- Building pathology or roofing inspection experience
- Practical roofing background
- Clerk of Works / quality inspection experience
- Drone or thermal imaging experience
- Working at Height, Asbestos Awareness or CSCS
- Professional inspection report writing
Training
Every successful candidate will be trained in the UK Roof Surveys inspection methodology, including roofing systems and materials, failure mechanisms, defect diagnosis, evidence gathering, photographic standards, inspection procedures, repair versus replacement assessment, remaining service life, digital systems, reporting and client communication.
Initial inspections will be supervised and reviewed before progression to independent surveying. Complex findings can be escalated to senior technical support.
Career Development
As our surveying operation grows nationally, opportunities include:
- Senior Roof Surveyor
- Commercial roof inspections
- Complex defect diagnosis
- Housing portfolio condition surveys
- Contractor recommendation validation
- Post-works quality assurance
- Surveyor training and supervision
- Technical report review
We are looking for someone who wants to develop with the company rather than simply complete a daily list of appointments.
Package
- £38,000–£45,000 depending on experience
- Company vehicle and business fuel
- Surveying equipment provided
- Specialist roofing training
- Ongoing technical support
- Professional development opportunities
- No roofing installation or repair work
- No requirement to sell remedial work
- Progression into senior and specialist positions
