About the Role
The States of Guernsey are looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join the Mignot Memorial Hospital in Alderney. Mignot Memorial Hospital (MMH) is a small country hospital with a total of 22 beds. Of these, 14 beds are designated for long‑stay care, providing nursing support to island residents who live within the hospital. The remaining 8 beds are acute beds used for short‑term admission, assessment, and treatment. Patients whose needs cannot be met at MMH are transferred to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital (PEH) in Guernsey and, on occasion, to Southampton.
MMH also has a two‑beded resuscitation and emergency care area, where care is provided to A&E attenders, including both adults and children. The acute ward delivers care to patients with a wide range of acute and complex medical conditions, and occasionally surgical conditions.
The post holder will be responsible for providing a wide range of patient care duties under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. With minimal supervision, they will ensure the delivery of high‑quality care to patients. As an integral member of the nursing team, the post holder will demonstrate strong teamwork skills, collaborating effectively with the multidisciplinary team to meet patient needs and support the team’s objectives. They will also support the development of new or less experienced staff by sharing skills and participating in training and educational activities.
MMH is a unique workplace where acute and long‑stay patients are cared for together. This post offers a brilliant opportunity to learn, develop, and gain valuable experience in a dynamic and supportive environment.
This role comes with a competitive salary, progressive annual leave and entitlement to a pension scheme. We will also consider previous service in a substantive post in the NHS or Local Authority towards entitlement to annual leave, maternity leave and sick pay.
Special Duty: Pay enhancements of 40% and 80% are payable for work carried out in unsocial hours in line with policy.
Annual Bonus: Staff who are in post on 31 January will receive a lump sum payment every February.
Relocation: For candidates needing to relocate to the Bailiwick of Alderney for the post, we offer a relocation package to help with the cost of moving over to the Island. This relocation package offers different solutions depending on an individual’s circumstances.
