About the Team
You will be joining a high-functioning and highly regarded Employment Legal Team within Legal, Compliance & Corporate Affairs. The team is composed of top-tier professionals who are subject matter experts in employment law. The team partners with groups throughout Workday to execute on its goals and reports to the Deputy General Counsel for Employment.
About the Role
The Sr. Employment Counsel partners with others within Legal, Compliance & Corporate Affairs, People & Purpose, and other business functions to support our core values of innovation, customer service, integrity, and profitability, while ensuring that Workday maintains a culture of fairness, development and fun for its employees. They apply discerning judgment when advising on complex employment matters and guide the business in evaluating risk when making decisions. In this role, they perform litigation on Workday's behalf or coordinate litigation and other legal matters handled by outside counsel.
Responsibilities for this role include:
- Providing strategic mentorship and counseling to a range of teams and partners across Workday in matters relating to compliance, investigations and dispute resolution.
- Counseling and providing guidance to People & Purpose regarding employee relations issues (including employee performance, terminations, leaves of absence, and occupational health).
- Providing pragmatic advice to the business on employment obligations across jurisdictions.
- Drafting and reviewing various types of employment agreements, policies, work rules, etc.
- Assisting in handling administrative claims and litigation (e.g. discrimination, unfair termination, etc.).
- Conducting diligence and advising on employee-related issues in mergers & acquisitions.
- Managing pre-litigation and litigation disputes and devising creative resolution strategies.
About You
Basic Qualifications
- Has a J.D. Degree, is a Qualified Solicitor, or has equivalent credentials and has authorization to practice law in the United Kingdom, Ireland, or other EU country.
- 6+ years of experience at a law firm or in-house advising on employment law matters.
Other Qualifications
- High level of integrity, professionalism, intellectual curiosity, humility, and willingness to grow.
- Solid knowledge of employment laws across jurisdictions in Europe, Africa, and the Gulf Coast Countries.
- Ability to independently determine and develop solutions to complex legal issues that are practical, clearly and timely communicated, and consistent with business objectives.
- Experience leading litigation tasks, discovery management/collection, and working efficiently with other attorneys and paralegals.
- Experience with SaaS, web technologies, cloud technologies/platforms, the mobile space, cloud computing, and/or enterprise software.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with legal and non-legal audiences at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills while prioritising and working independently.
- Detail-oriented and ability to balance multiple transactions and projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
