Our client is seeking an Audio Engineer who will be responsible for collecting high-quality multimedia data, setting up and calibrating recording equipment, and processing data using scripts and command line tools. Most work will be based in our amazing new audio lab featuring anechoic chambers, one of the world’s largest configurable acoustic rooms and many other types of space.
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in sound and audio, experience in multimedia equipment setup and recording, and proficiency in data processing and management.
Responsibilities:- Collecting high-quality multimedia data: You will primarily focus on audio and video data collection in our bespoke audio recording facilities ensuring the capture of high-quality data for use by our researchers and engineers.
- Recording and technical equipment setup: You will be responsible for the setup, testing, and adjustment of recording equipment for data collection sessions, ensuring optimal data capture.
- Performing data processing: Using standard multimedia tools, scripts, and command line tools, you will process the collected data, ensuring its integrity and consistency for further use.
- Working with data collection volunteers: You will collaborate with both internal and external volunteers during data collection activities, ensuring the collection of diverse and high-quality data.
- Solid understanding of multimedia equipment setup and recording, gained from experience in a sound engineering or AV technician role, including DAWs, audio interfaces, speakers and microphones.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure that all aspects of our data collections are correct.
- Interest in sound and audio, demonstrated by activities such as playing a musical instrument, making audio recordings, or music production.
- Excellent organisational skills and time management.
- A good standard of day-to-day computing proficiency.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience working with large spreadsheets or databases, for example, working with data in Excel or in a database such as MySQL.
- Programming or scripting experience, e.g. Python.
- Familiarity using Linux and the command line would be a bonus.
- Familiarity with visual positioning/motion capture systems.
Location: Our lab building, which opened in June 2025, is based at the exciting Bourn Quarter Development (near Cambourne, west Cambridge, UK). We also have a primary office in central Cambridge, UK. Experiment setup, data collection and lab maintenance activities require your onsite presence at our world-class laboratory facility for most of your time.
