The Role

We’re looking for a highly skilled Senior IP Legal Assistant / IP Paralegal to provide maternity cover across both trade mark and paralegal functions. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, international environment, is confident working with clients and attorneys, and enjoys being a key player in keeping complex IP matters on track.

You’ll be supporting leading fee earners on important client matters, handling international portfolios, and helping to train and mentor colleagues. This role calls for a professional with a strong eye for detail, a proactive mindset, and the confidence to take ownership of high-level IP processes.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Acting as a trusted partner to attorneys and clients — liaising with clients worldwide, answering queries, and coordinating with foreign agents.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and submitting high-quality IP documents (patent, trade mark, and design filings; assignments; legalisation and notarisation paperwork).
  • Managing complex international filing programmes, including PCT national phases and trade mark applications.
  • Monitoring deadlines and ensuring attorneys and clients are always one step ahead.
  • Taking the lead on drafting applications, correspondence, and official forms with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Helping mentor and train junior team members, while setting the standard for quality and client service.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to improve processes, documentation, and systems.
  • Supporting wider firm initiatives and projects, including systems development and business change.

About You

  • Extensive IP legal assistant/paralegal experience, ideally across both patents and trade marks.
  • Confident working with international clients and attorneys, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and comfortable managing competing priorities.
  • Tech-savvy, with strong skills in Microsoft Office, online filing systems (UKIPO, EUIPO, EPO, WIPO), and document management tools.
  • A natural collaborator who thrives in a team, but equally capable of working independently.
  • Ideally qualified (or working towards) CITMA or CIPA certification.
