A leading international law firm is recruiting an experienced Risk Lawyer to join its Risk and Compliance team in London. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a forward-thinking department and contribute meaningfully to the firm’s risk strategy and culture.
The role supports the Head of Risk / Senior Risk Manager in identifying, managing and mitigating the firm’s regulatory, compliance and professional risks.
Key Responsibilities- Responding to a wide range of compliance and risk queries from fee earners and business services teams
- Advising on the interpretation and application of the SRA Code of Conduct
- Providing guidance on general compliance matters, including share dealing, confidentiality, outside interests, and anti-bribery and corruption
- Advising on engagement letters and terms of business, including conflict waiver language, confidentiality provisions and limitation of liability
- Reviewing and advising on client contracts and terms, working closely with specialist colleagues within the Risk team
- Assisting with auditor requests, third-party reliance letters, secondments and supplier documentation
- Drafting, reviewing and updating firm policies, procedures and guidance
- Delivering firm-wide training on compliance and risk topics
- Supporting internal risk assessments, audits and investigations
- Assisting with data protection matters, including data breaches and subject access requests
- Reviewing client file requests in line with firm protocols
- Acting as a point of contact for regulatory risk issues arising from new business intake processes, including conflicts, AML and matter administration
- Advising on risk and compliance considerations associated with new business acceptance
- Monitoring developments in law, regulation and market practice
- Supporting strategic risk projects and working closely with senior stakeholders, including General Counsel
- Helping to raise the profile of the Risk team across the firm
The firm is committed to ongoing training and development and welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates who can demonstrate:
- Qualified lawyer status with approximately 4+ years’ PQE
- Experience within an international or large commercial law firm environment
- Strong working knowledge of the SRA Code of Conduct
- Contract and client terms review experience
- Experience in compliance, professional practice or regulatory risk
- Data protection experience
- Experience delivering or supporting compliance training
- Excellent analytical and research skills
- Sound judgement and structured critical thinking
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- A proactive, resilient approach and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage difficult or sensitive issues with diplomacy
