What skills and experience we're looking for The person appointed to the post will:

• hold an appropriate degree level qualification in science based subjects and a recognised secondary age range teaching qualification.
• be able to teach science to Key Stages 3 and 4, including GCSE.
• have an understanding of the learning needs of less able students and be able to respond to them.
• appreciate the needs of more able students and teach in a manner which acknowledges the need for differentiation and extension.
• be a competent and enthusiastic communicator of the subject to adults and students.
• be aware of and responsive to current teaching developments within the subject area and be aware of Health and Safety issues in the laboratory context.
• expect and be able to achieve appropriate standards of behaviour and discipline both within and outside the classroom.
• work collaboratively with the Department and with other staff.
• be willing to accept and respond positively to advice from subject and pastoral managers.
• wish to contribute, possibly outside the subject specialism, in some way towards an activity which enriches the educational, social or cultural experiences of the students.
• seek to establish/promote a successful professional career within the school.
• be in sympathy with the ethos of the School and seek to uphold, develop and enhance the achievements and standards towards which the School works.
• the ability to support students/respond to parents through fluent and accurately spoken English.
