Overview
Are you interested in working within the criminal justice system in a core role supporting the police? Do you have the empathy to work with vulnerable people? We are looking for people who want to make a difference working alongside the Police in custody suites, caring for detainees.
Key Responsibilities
- Support detainees during the time spent in custody, complete forensic samples, and work with other agencies to support detainees’ rehabilitation.
- Work across an assigned region in the Police Custody Suites and Force area.
- Make recorded observations and escort detainees, working with colleagues and the Police to manage any risk of self‑harm.
- Provide physical, mental healthcare and wellbeing needs while detained.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience working within the police/security/armed forces would be beneficial, but training will be provided on an Initial Training Course even without prior experience.
- Reasonable level of spoken and written English and basic numeracy.
- Competent in IT and using a computer. Must have a full valid driving licence.
- RTW in UK, lived in UK, British passport or ILR for 3 years with no gaps out of the country more than 3 months.
- All candidates are subject to police vetting checks. A clean driving/criminal record is essential.
Compensation & Working Patterns
Salary of £13,917.49. Part‑time roles available. Fixed shift working: 06:45 to 19:00 for day shifts and night shifts of 18:45 to 07:00, working in a team rota pattern of 2‑day shifts on, 8 days, 2 nights, 4 days off. Rolling rota available 2 years in advance.
Training & Development
Once selection and vetting are complete, begin a 3‑week initial training course (ITC) Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm on full pay. Ongoing development and opportunities to progress to Senior Custody Detention Officer, managing sizeable teams.
