- Lead & Manage the operational Nursing function of the Division to the highest professional standard.
- Develop positive working relationships with Clinicians and Managers to ensure the Trust is at the forefront of best professional practice and service delivery.
- Act as a visible role model, creating a supportive, professional ethos to empower staff to contribute to the delivery of high-quality person-centered lower carbon care.
- Provide responsive and effective professional leadership for Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting and AHPs across the organisation at all levels.
- Influence the local and national professional agenda in conjunction with the senior Nurse team including a contribution towards reducing health inequalities.
- Lead the implementation and further development of clinical indicators/metrics ensuring effective systems of reporting, action planning and sustainability.
- Identify and progress opportunities for Nurses, Midwives, Health Visitors and AHPs to be innovative and creative, utilising research and evidence base within organisational practice.
- Critically appraise and synthesise the outcomes of relevant research, evaluations and audits and apply the information when seeking to improve practice.
- Analyse highly complex and sensitive/contentious information in a range of formats and present to Executive colleagues on a range of issues.
- Promote the professional reputation and relationships throughout the organisation and externally.
- Take personal responsibility for actions and omissions, and fully recognise personal accountability.
- Receive and discuss highly complex, sensitive and contentious issues with patients/relatives and staff.

- Provide mentorship and coaching to senior Nurses/Midwives/Health Visitors and in some instances AHPs.
- Contribute to the development of a strong and effective senior team within the Division.
- Ensure NMC and HCPC standards and strategy are consistently delivered against.
- Create an environment in which Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visitors and AHPs and care staff feel valued and enabled to practice and deliver their practice safely and with confidence.
- Ensure safe standards of Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting and AHP care are of the highest quality and consistently delivered ensuring that all services comply with the requirements of the equality and diversity agenda, including quality impact assessments.
- Lead work on the extended scope of practice and multi-disciplinary working and evidence-based practice; ensuring education needs are appropriately identified and met.
- Facilitate the delivery of all development projects within the role's remit including the implementation of the Patient Experience Enabling Strategy, Quality and Safety Enabling Strategy and Quality Framework.
- Support, as required, the Chief Nurse and/or Deputy Chief Nurse by representing them (as delegated) at meetings, internal and external to the Trust.
- Network locally, regionally and nationally to share best practice and benchmark services.
- Ensure public and patient involvement in the wider work of the Division.
- Work with strategic partners across the health economy to ensure relationships and work streams are forged to ensure the best health and social care for our patients.
- Ensure that Nurses, Midwives, Health Visitors and AHPs comply with the Trust Standards for Attitude, Behaviour and Communication and address any deficiencies.
- Be accountable as Divisional Lead for Infection Prevention and Control to minimise the risk of hospital acquired infection via close working with the Infection, Prevention and Control Team and Deputy DIPC.
- Ensure the implementation and monitoring of standards against the Hygiene Code of Practice and CQC Regulation 12, including attendance at the IPC Operational Group.
- Be responsible for identification, assessment and management of risks related to own portfolio.
- Update and regularly report on progress and escalation of risk where appropriate.
- With Divisional colleagues prepare the Division for inspections by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
- Engage with the CQC, NHSE and ICS/ICB on operational matters relating to Divisional quality, safety and staffing, as requested.
- Lead and initiate the regular complex audit of the standards of patient care weekly/monthly as escalation requires and ensure that any issues highlighted, and evidence of best practice, are regularly reported to the appropriate quality groups.
- Ensure that the services patients receive are appropriate, accessible when they need them and are delivered in a manner that respects their privacy, dignity and individuality.
- Advise and appraise the Chief Nurse and/or Deputy Chief Nurse on professional Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting and AHP care issues within their specific Division.
- Develop policies, both locally, regionally and across Divisions, in order to support clinical care and practice in the Trust, ensuring the implementation of policies across the service.
- Integrate corporate Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting and AHP & non-medical clinical plans with Division clinical service plans.
- Ensure the Trust key performance indicators are achieved working with the Division Quadrumvirate and through effective management of Matrons, Senior Nurses, Midwives, and AHP and non-medical clinicians within the Division.
- Ensure that Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting and AHPs clinical practice is compliant with national standards, e.g. Care Quality Commission, NICE guidelines etc. and fully support the work of the Division Governance and Risk team, and Patient Safety Specialists.
- Implement a robust system across the Division to monitor and evidence standards of care. This will include leading on ward performance review processes within the Division, and lead on quality audits within the Division.
- Participate in the wider organizational reviews such as the Clinical Accreditation programme, Quality Review Visits and peer reviews.
- Be clinically accountable for the clinical service across the Division.
- Lead a broad range of general policies and need to interpret National Strategic Policy.
- Develop clinical/professional policies for specialist areas and across the organisation.
- Deputise within the Senior Nursing leadership team as required.
- Represent the Trust at both internal and external meetings, ensuring that they are professionally and corporately aligned into business decisions.
- Ensure that Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting and AHP and care staff are suitably qualified, competent and maintain professional registration in order to deliver safe quality patient care.
- Undertake annual appraisal and personal development reviews for self and line managed staff.
- Authorised signatory for timesheets/turnaround documents within the Trust's Financial standing instructions.
- Act as chair of Trust groups and be an active member of groups within and external to the Trust.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection processes of the Trust.
- Participate in Directorate/Divisional investigations and disciplinary processes as required.
- Take all reasonable care of health and safety at work for self, team and others and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Demonstrate, by self and through team, compliance to the pledges of the NHS Constitution 2012 and Trust values.
- Formulate and implement relevant long-term strategies, which may impact across the whole organisation.
- Ensure that Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting and AHP resource decisions within the specific Divisions have been taken with full professional advice and input to ensure that patient quality, safety and experience are not compromised.
- Strategic management experience and clinical expert knowledge.
- Ongoing planning and delivery of the strategic quality nursing framework and being accountable for continuum of quality improvement and transformation across both Division and organisation.
- Be accountable for the financial delivery of Nursing services across the Division.
- Keyboard skills and use of VDU daily. Daily concentration required for report writing and ability to deal with service issues as escalated.
