KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide evidence based CBT-informed supervision to Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs).
  • Provide formal and informal education, training and supervision to other members of the team including schools.
  • Work with a defined caseload of service users as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT), providing assessment, care planning and care delivery for service users with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • Provide highly skilled professional care, psychological interventions, group work, clinical assessment, risk assessments/risk management, and promote recovery and inclusion.
  • Ensure co-production with service users, families, carers, and education staff.
  • Provide specialist advice/consultation and guidance to school mental health leads, team members, and trainees.
  • Liaise with all members of the MDT, schools, and outside agencies in the implementation of early intervention.
  • Ensure that interventions are evidence based.
  • Provide an all age inclusive service, focusing on early identification and rapid response that supports effective clinical decision making and education of education staff.
  • Participate in risk assessment and risk management activities.
  • Contribute to the development of ideas and innovative practice and propose changes to protocols and procedures within the MHST and CAMHS where required.
  • Shape and influence developing referral pathways and access.
  • Provide a flexible service, with occasional evening and weekend working to facilitate parent psycho-education and community activities.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the development of other services and the requirements of the changing service.
  • Demonstrate a range of assessment skills.
  • Provide clinical leadership to staff working within multi-disciplinary teams to assess, develop, deliver, and evaluate effective programmes of care.
  • Assist the Team Manager in the effective management of the function and act up in their absence.
  • Provide effective clinical supervision to staff within the team, mentoring individuals and groups around the chosen area of clinical practice.
  • Maintain continuing professional development by engaging in the appraisal system, clinical supervision, and through specific mentorship provided by a member of the senior clinical team.
  • Participate in and lead junior staff in the continuous improvement of services through the Trust's approach to service redesign and quality improvement.
  • Support others in their continuing professional development by delivering appraisal and supporting the development of PDPs with individuals.
  • Provide supervision to trainees and maintain accurate and up-to-date records in line with Trust policy.
  • Use clinical leadership skills to maintain an environment of high quality care and treatment.
  • Organise the work of others to promote a responsive timely service ensuring children, families, and carers receive high quality care and treatment as determined by their care plan.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of staffing capacity ensuring that the deployment of staff and resources is planned and maintained within budgeted levels.
  • Authorised signatory for budgets.
  • Contribute to the recruitment of staff supporting both pre and post recruitment processes.
  • Demonstrate personal qualities and skills which involve taking the lead in teaching and/or having presentation skills against various individuals and groups across the sectors.
  • Maintain timely data collection and regular inputting of information through the use of data collection systems e.g. daily diaries/RIO, Safeguard.
  • Knowledge and implementation of Microsoft programmes/applications.
  • Work in partnership with schools, social care colleagues, and others adopting a multi-agency approach to support children/young people and their families/carers.
  • Work integrally with CAMHS in developing the core offer for children, young people, and families.
  • Work co-productively with service users and their carers and families.
  • Maintain awareness of current developments in children and young people's practice, best practice, trends, issues, and research in mental health and education.
  • Be familiar with the government Green Paper, Future in Mind document, and Five Year Forward View.
  • Undertake a comprehensive and specialist assessment resulting in an individualised care plan.
  • Regularly make judgements and decisions affecting the care of a challenging client group.
  • Assess and manage ongoing risks as identified during assessment, ensuring collaboration with children, families, and carers.
  • Regularly review risk factors and make changes to the management of them as necessary.
  • Make judgements and decisions concerning day-to-day management of the team and its resources.
  • Ensure that practice is evidence-based paying particular attention to the Trust's guidelines, policies, protocols, and pathways.
  • Be available for individual supervision with agreed clinical supervisor in line with Trust policies.
  • Implement, review, and maintain Trust Policies and Procedures and propose changes to working practices within the team.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Plan and organise work according to identified need and in line with Team Manager and Service Transformation Leads.
  • Demonstrate effective time management, planning, and prioritising the assessment and treatment of individuals, activities, and programmes.
  • Develop joint working arrangements and referral pathways with colleagues from schools to promote the development and effective functioning of MHST.
  • Develop and implement systems of audit for Client records, Team activity, Outcome Measures, CYP experience measures.
  • Promote and maintain effective relationships with all involved in patient care to deliver a high quality service to children, families, and carers.
  • Communicate sensitive diagnosis and treatment related information with children, families, and carers, utilising highly developed communication skills to overcome barriers to understanding.
  • Liaise with and advise children, families, and carers, local authority, Primary Care teams, and other statutory bodies and third sector agencies.
  • Communicate sensitive information to children, families, carers, and relatives often requiring tact, diplomacy, empathy, and negotiation skills.
  • Manage emotive situations through utilising well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate clinical and non-clinical information within the team environment using effective verbal, written, and IT skills.

  • There is a frequent requirement for light physical effort for several short periods during a shift, involving carrying of equipment.
  • Requirement to travel to various geographical locations.
  • Undertake the management of severely challenging and disturbed children, families, and carers with difficult backgrounds and history.
  • There will be a frequent requirement to concentrate whilst assessing patients and formulating plans of care and risk management plans whilst responding to requests from staff.
  • The post holder may be occasionally exposed to potential incidents of physical and non-physical assault.
  • Standard keyboard skills required for inputting data onto RiO, Health Roster, etc.
