Overview

The Cheshire and Mersey Perinatal Mental Health Service is growing rapidly following successful Long Term Plan funding, enabling us to support an increasing number of women, partners and families in the perinatal period. We aim to provide excellent care and reduce health inequalities within this population through flexible, multi‑disciplinary clinical delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the team’s engagement with stakeholders, including staff, women, families and statutory and voluntary sector agencies.
  • Liaise with other professionals and support the safe, effective day‑to‑day operation of the service.
  • Present information—often sensitive—to women and families in a clear, compassionate manner.
  • Ensure equitable access to services for all women, with particular attention to diversity and hard‑to‑reach groups.
  • Attend management and professional meetings as directed by the line manager.
  • Plan and coordinate own workload in collaboration with the needs of women, families and the wider service.
  • Plan and organise case conferences, working with other agencies as needed.
  • Ensure interventions are integrated and coordinated, especially when dependent on external agencies.
  • Develop care packages including assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation, actively involving women and families.
  • Triage referrals by assessing and advising on eligibility.
  • Provide specialist advice to referrers and multidisciplinary staff concerning client care.
  • Participate in safeguarding, including safeguarding children to level 3, as outlined in relevant competency frameworks.
  • Develop educational programmes for other professional groups working in perinatal or maternity services.
  • Engage in audit and research activities and implement findings to improve service quality.
  • Contribute to clinical governance arrangements to ensure high standards of patient care.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date client records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in own clinical supervision and Personal Development Review (PDR).

Qualifications

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or qualified social worker.
  • Strong knowledge of perinatal and infant mental health services.
  • Experience in mental health assessment, risk assessment, care planning and safeguarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to travel across a large geographical area.
  • Excellent communication skills and capacity to tailor information for diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Interest in specialist training opportunities within the role.
