Key Responsibilities

  • Provide autonomous musculoskeletal assessment and rehabilitation for Mersey Care employees referred to the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Service, including fitness‑for‑work advice and safe, sustainable return‑to‑work outcomes.
  • Deliver evidence‑based MSK assessment, design and implement individualized treatment plans (manual therapy, exercise prescription, electrotherapy, advice and education), and continuously evaluate and readjust programmes.
  • Identify and address psychosocial contributing factors to musculoskeletal pathology, referring on when necessary.
  • Perform comprehensive assessment for self‑referrals, management referrals and Occupational Health referrals, including complex multifactorial cases.
  • Deliver preventative education to staff through one‑to‑one and group sessions.
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical records in line with Trust policy and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) standards, manage caseload effectively, prioritise waiting lists, and adhere to clinical governance.
  • Assist with musculoskeletal clinical audits, develop the physiotherapy service, and take part in specific audit projects or research initiatives.
  • Provide detailed reports and clinical opinions to relevant colleagues, and participate in case conferences and telephone triage as required.
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers, staff and employers, ensuring confidentiality, and assist with advice on Display Screen Equipment, workplace risk and reasonable adjustments.
  • Work collaboratively with occupational health colleagues, managers, HR, nurses, clerical staff and the multidisciplinary team to support sickness absence management, phased returns and occupational health advice.
  • Participate in professional and clinical supervision, in‑service training, CPD, and maintain personal competency through continuing professional development.
  • Contribute to service development, attend department meetings, and maintain contacts with local and national clinical interest groups in occupational health musculoskeletal care.
  • Ensure all equipment used is maintained, fit for purpose and record relevant fitness-to‑attend assessments for staff.
