The Community Paediatric Department forms part of the Women’s & Children’s Division of the Trust, and provides a service to children from birth up to age 19. We have a team of Community Paediatricians and Specialist Nurses, supported by administrative and clinic support staff.
The department is based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe and at Wharton Healthcare Centre in Winsford, and we currently have a vacancy for a medical secretary, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00. Whilst the post is based primarily at Wharton Healthcare Centre, service need may require you to work at our Leighton base from time to time.
This is a demanding role which requires excellent organisational skills. You will be expected to monitor our referrals inbox and GP referrals and manage these appropriately, responding to referrers where necessary and obtaining further information if required.
You will liaise with colleagues to manage doctors’ and nurses’ diaries and the new referral and follow up waiting list, and will arrange sessions for the clinicians, following which you will ensure outcomes are recorded on our hospital patient record and that clinical letters are produced for the clinician.
Applicants should be highly motivated and have the ability to work on their own initiative, but also be happy to work as part of a team. Previous secretarial experience is essential. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is required for this role.
You will deal with a considerable number of calls from referrers and parents/carers, and it's therefore essential that you have a calm, empathetic approach. You will work within a small friendly team all of whom support each other when necessary.
