Therapy Practitioner - Acute Therapy Team in Wigan

A Vacancy at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen within the Acute Therapy Team based at RAEI in Wigan. We are seeking a full‑time Therapy Practitioner to work over a 7‑day period on a rota system. This is a permanent post based predominantly within the Acute Therapy Team but requires the ability to work flexibly across other therapy teams at the site, including CAU (Community Assessment Unit), Home First and ACST (Access to Community Services Team). NHS experience and NVQ Health & Social Care Level 3 is essential. We cannot accept the Level 3 Diploma offered as a short online course. Only qualifications from recognised NVQ training providers will be accepted.

Key Responsibilities

• Hold responsibility for a designated caseload within a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision from the Therapists and contributing to a smooth running of the service.
• Be responsible for specific routine tasks, as delegated.
• Participate as appropriate in reviews and changes to service delivery within the team.
• Exercise good personal time management, punctuality and consistent and reliable attendance.
• Work alongside the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, seamless, high‑quality care.
• Supervise and deliver occupational therapy / physiotherapy treatment programmes within parameters set by qualified members of the team, reporting back progress.
• Be responsible for the safe and competent use of appliances used by patients.
• Assist qualified staff in the assessment and treatment process within agreed competency levels.
• Carry out specific interventions within agreed competency levels.
• Evaluate patient progress and liaise with the multidisciplinary team as required.
• Deliver pre‑operative education to patients.
• Instruct patients in the use of equipment and techniques to promote independence.
• Communicate relevant information to team members, including participation in team meetings.
• Communicate effectively in a variety of ways with patients/carers to gain cooperation and understanding of treatment programmes.
• Maintain good working relationships.
• Establish therapeutic relationships using negotiation and reasoning skills to complete treatment programmes.
• Adhere to Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and carry out responsibilities accordingly.
• Respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of clients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.
• Attend regular meetings such as staff meetings, support and development groups.
• Participate in in‑service training.
• Maintain a portfolio of competencies showing evidence of lifelong learning.
• Actively participate in PDR, appraisal and supervision systems.
• Assist in induction and training of new staff and education of students.
• Support Therapy Leads, as requested, in quality activities within the team.

Responsibility for Information Resources

• Keep accurate and clear patient treatment records in line with Trust policies and standards.
• Maintain timely statistics and other records, as requested by the Service.

Responsibility for Health & Safety

Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 – the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

Work Circumstances & On‑Call
