Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a motivated, caring, and enthusiastic Senior Health Care Support Worker to join a dedicated Paediatric team within the Paediatric Outpatient Department in Wigan and Leigh. You will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for patients and supporting a variety of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional. You should have excellent communication skills and the flexibility and adaptability necessary to meet the needs of children and their families while maintaining a safe environment. The position requires working across six sites within the Wigan and Leigh area and may involve participation in an on-call rota for senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) if the role is predominantly operational.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.
  • Assist qualified nursing and medical staff as requested.
  • Communicate with all team members to maintain good service provision.
  • Ensure all patients meet their hygiene needs, providing assistance appropriate to individual requirements.
  • Prepare and support patients during any activity undertaken.
  • Alert the registered nurse to any changes in the patient’s health and well-being or potential risks.
  • Undertake observations/tasks such as patient temperature measurement, weighing, and fluid checks as directed.
  • Ensure effective use of material resources and supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.
  • Assist with general cleaning and restocking of resources, and clean and prepare patient beds.
  • Contribute to personal development and actively participate in learning opportunities.
  • Conduct phlebotomy on children of various ages with appropriate training.
  • Act as a QB tester on a rotational basis.
