Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Support students with social, emotional and mental health needs in both classroom and 1:1 settings.
- Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to implement behaviour and support plans.
- Help students develop positive relationships, emotional regulation and resilience.
- Assist with classroom management and promote a calm, inclusive learning environment.
- Provide tailored academic support to help students access the curriculum.
- Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and target setting.
Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Has recent experience supporting young people with SEMH needs in a secondary school or similar setting.
- Demonstrates strong behaviour management skills and a calm, empathetic approach.
- Is confident working with students who may display challenging behaviour.
- Holds a relevant qualification or has equivalent experience in youth work, education or care.
- Has a clear Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
Your salary - dependent on experience - is paid weekly through PAYE. All candidates registering with Step Teachers are subject to safeguarding checks in line with the DfE's statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education, including reference checks and an Enhanced DBS check either registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
