A Vacancy at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are currently seeking one Consultant to work in the Acute Medicine service, which is a core component of the Trust’s Medicine Division, delivering high-quality care to a wide range of acutely unwell patients across the Acute Assessment Units and the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan. The successful applicant will support the delivery of high-quality acute care across the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing high quality consultant-delivered care to patients
- Ensuring patient safety, dignity and care are given the highest priority
- Being proactive in ensuring that patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making
- Undertaking clinical leadership and supervision, teaching and training of junior medical staff
- Liaising with clinicians and managers to address any issues arising that may affect the services
- Contributing to the ongoing development of the acute medicine services at WWL
There may be opportunities to pursue an area of specialist interest, e.g. developing new services or pathways.

The successful applicant will join colleagues to continue the exciting developments improving the delivery of care to these acutely unwell medical patients. Specialist interest will be accommodated e.g. Respiratory, Cardiology, or Diabetes clinics, teaching and education sessions at Edge Hill University can also be considered.
