An exciting opportunity within a JAG accredited unit with a green IHEEM rating. The role involves decontamination of flexible endoscopes and other reusable medical devices, ensuring compliance with standards and maintaining a high-quality accredited service.
Responsibilities:
- Undertake decontamination of flexible endoscopes duties according to equipment requirements and assist supervisors and manager in providing and maintaining a high-quality accredited service, inclusive of logistical responsibilities and management of reusable medical devices utilised within clinical care.
- Receive, disassemble, clean, disinfect and store endoscopes within controlled environments, ensuring comprehensive records of all tasks are maintained for tracking traceability purposes, adhering to the department's Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems.
- Carry out the timely collection, receipt, disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, checking, reassembly, packing, sterilisation and delivery of reusable medical devices.
- Record all tasks in the Healthcare Science Information Systems (tracking & tracing) database.
- Plan own workload with limited supervision to deliver timely, smooth & accurate production.
- Assist with supervision and teaching in decontamination practices.
- Provide support to the Decontamination Lead and work in a team with decontamination staff on a daily basis, undertaking tasks within the decontamination area in accordance with UHBW NHS Foundation Trust policy and procedures.
- Assess department workload at regular intervals during the shift and organise resources accordingly to respond in a timely manner to external customers' needs.
- Participate in the decontamination of contaminated items that arrive in the department.
- Ensure that daily tests of the department's machinery (e.g., washer/disinfectors) are undertaken as per procedure manual.
- Inspect the cleanliness/correctness of equipment/instrumentation and check items for durability.
- Ensure all documentation is completed in a legible, correct and timely manner.
- Record and log issues raised on either paper and/or via computer systems.
- Ensure work is performed in line with up-to-date guidelines both national and local, including JAG IHEEM standards.
- Resolve problems that occur within the decontamination areas and maintain contact with end users regarding production and turnaround times.
- Assist in restocking supplies and record all information required.
Exposure to remnants of blood, body tissue or offensive by-products is part of the cleaning cycles. The role requires the ability to work within a controlled environment and maintain rigorous records.
