In order to create an amazing experience for our children, our staff are absolutely critical to our success each and every Holiday. One thing all of our staff has in common is that they all want to make an impact in the lives of children. They understand what it takes to be a role model and know that while working with children is incredibly fun, it is also hard work and challenging. Still, being an Instructor at Discover Activity Camps is one of the most rewarding jobs you will ever have. You’ll play a key role in helping them feel secure and confident in a group setting, often being their first experience in a structured environment outside of home or nursery. Our staff have the ability to be mature, responsible and dependable while also being fun and easy‑going. This role has a special focus on supporting early years aged children (typically ages 4–5).

Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the overall wellbeing and happiness of the children in your care.
  • To help deliver a program of daily activities suitable for the age range of the children in a safe environment.
  • Follow activity plans and instructions provided by the Camp Manager.
  • Lead and supervise a group of early years children during play, creative activities, and outdoor time.
  • To promote the ethos of Discover Activity Camps, providing an exceptional role model to children in your care.
  • Promotion of exceptional safeguarding practices at all times, including awareness or recording and reporting procedure in accordance with the Safeguarding Policy.
  • To be responsible for the security of the premises in which activities are undertaken.
  • To ensure that buildings and rooms are adequately secured upon departure through the use of door codes and locks.
  • Create a warm, welcoming, and safe environment tailored to the needs of younger children.
  • Meeting and greeting parents, signing children in at the start of the day and out at the end of the day.
  • Accompanying children around the site to different activities, supervising lunch and supervising open play sessions.
  • Support children with toileting, snack times, and transitions between activities.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience working with children aged 4–5 years old.
  • Some understanding of early childhood education and safeguarding practices.
  • Experience coaching, teaching or instructing young people is desirable, but not essential.
  • We also want to hear about any experience you have delivering other activities such as arts/dance/music/computing/science.
  • We would love to hear about any childcare/educational play certificates you may have.

Skills

  • You will be able to work in a busy environment as part of a friendly team, interfacing with parents, staff and most importantly the children.
  • You will have the ability to adapt to different situations and think creatively.
  • Enthusiastic with a genuine passion for working with children, especially within the early years age bracket.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
